The experiment will take place on two consecutive days, about 1/2 hour for the first day, and 2 hours for the second day in the scanner. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technique used to measure brain activity while someone is performing a task. It involves going into a large magnet and lying on a table while performing the experiment. Participants must be right-handed and be native English speakers between 18-30. Participants must not have history of epilepsy or seizures, have metal embedded permanently in their body (all metal must be removed before beginning the fMRI, including earrings, noserings, tonguerings, necklaces, belts, etc), a history of claustrophobia or aversion to loud noises. Time slots for the first day (practice, meet at 345 B, Baker Hall) are very flexible, so please choose among the following start times for the second day (at the fMRI scanner - note: you will need to meet 20 minutes before the time shown to be driven to the scanner ) 27 Oct 11:3 29 Oct 2pm: 2 Nov 2pm: 3 Nov 12:3 4 Nov 12: 9 Nov 2pm: 11 Nov 1pm: 12 Nov 12: 16 Nov 12:3 17 Nov 12:3 Pay will be $60 plus a performance-based bonus. If you have participated in an experiment previously (over a year ago) with Dana Bryne, you may be ineligible for this study, as it is closely related to one of those studies. Please respond as soon as possible -- each slot is allocated to the first person with whom I negotiate a confirmed time. -- Pat Gunn Research/Systems Programmer, Act-R Group, Department of Psychology, CMU
